HSBC is determined to support the people of Bangladesh mainly by providing safe water. The bank is operating the ‘HSBC Water Programme’ with a partnership with Earthwatch, WaterAir, and WWF. The programme focuses on providing safe drinking water and improving sanitation and hygiene awareness among school-going children. For the first 5 years (2012-2016), the bank has invested USD100 million and for the extended 3 years (2017-2019) of the programme, the bank has invested USD50 million.   

Besides, HSBC co-sponsors an annual competition celebrating Bangla language in a partnership with Prothom Alo since 2005. Each year, more than 140,000 students take part in the competition. Also, the bank works with local charity/voluntary groups with a view to bringing disadvantaged children into education.
