The Weekly Ittefaq was first published by Yar Mohammad Khan, its founders and printers, as well as the founders and treasurers of the Awami League of Bangladesh on 24 December 1949. Since both politics and the anti-Pakistan movement were actively involved, Tofazzal Hossain, who was employed in Kolkata at the time, was appointed as the editor of The Daily Ittehad, based in Kolkata, published by Huseyn Shaheed Suhhad.
