Covering an area of approximately 71.56 square kilometers, it is situated about 10 kilometers from Mahasthangarh, the earliest known capital of Bangladesh, formerly known as Pundravardhana. The district's police infrastructure is comprehensive, consisting of the office of the Superintendent of Police, two Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) offices, twelve police stations, a district detective branch, four police investigation centers, ten outposts, and an in-service training center. The police stations in Bogra district include Bogra Sadar, Shibganj, Shonatola, Gabtoli, Shariakandi, Dhunot, Sherpur, Nandigram, Adamdighi, Dhubcharia, Kahalu, and Shahjahanpur.

The formal journey of the Bogra district police began with Major William Whiler Home, who became the first Superintendent of Police on January 12, 1875. During British rule, 25 SPs served in Bogra, and during Pakistani rule, another 21 SPs held the position. After Bangladesh's independence, Mr. SM Awlad Hossain, ppm, became the first Superintendent of Police in independent Bangladesh. The Bogra district police played a significant role during the Liberation War of 1971, with many police officers sacrificing their lives for the country's freedom. To honor their bravery, a memorial stage named "Masir Uddin Mancha" has been established in their memory.
