Railway General Hospital

Bangladesh Railway is embarking on an initiative to expand its social services by leveraging its core assets, including vast land holdings and existing infrastructure. As part of this endeavor, the decision has been made to enhance the medical care facilities for BR's employees, with Kamlapur Railway Hospital being a key focus.

The plan entails upgrading and modernizing the current Kamlapur Hospital to accommodate 250 beds and establishing a 50-seat medical college and nursing institute on adjacent unused land within the hospital complex. This expansion will be carried out through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, allowing Bangladesh Railway to collaborate with a private sector partner.

The aim of the project is to enhance healthcare services, providing better quality medical care at affordable rates to BR employees while also serving the broader community. Additionally, it presents an opportunity for the private sector partner to generate commercial returns by offering services to the general public.

Endorsed by the Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs (CCEA) on August 14, 2013, the proposed hospital is envisioned to address the healthcare needs of both BR employees and the general populace. Furthermore, it aims to contribute to the advancement of medical education in the country, catering to the growing demand for quality healthcare services and medical training.
