The Bangladesh Sports Council (BSC) is an organization with a mission to revitalize sports in war-torn Bangladesh, promote various sports disciplines, and create opportunities for athletes to achieve excellence. The origins of BSC can be traced back to July 30, 1974, when the National Parliament passed the Bangladesh Sports Council Act, merging three sports institutions into one entity to foster unity and growth in the sports sector. Over the years, the act underwent several amendments, evolving the organization's structure and role. In 1976, it became the National Sports Control Board (NSCB), and in 1991, it was renamed the National Sports Council (NSC).

The primary goal of the National Sports Council is to build a healthy nation and achieve excellence in sports through consistent practice and training. By developing skilled athletes and constructing sports infrastructure, the council aims to enhance Bangladesh's reputation in the international sports arena. The NSC is responsible for coordinating sports development and activities throughout the country, planning and implementing training programs, and preparing athletes for international competitions.

The NSC's work includes building and maintaining various sports facilities, such as stadiums, gymnasiums, swimming pools, and training centers. It also focuses on providing proper training for athletes, coaches, referees, physios, nutritionists, and sports doctors. Additionally, the council oversees the recognition and regulation of national sports organizations, grants financial support for sports activities, and assists in the construction of sports facilities.
