Standard Chartered Bank Limited
Standard Chartered Bank Limited is committed to providing health care services to the people of Bangladesh. It has established an Operation Theatre and Children’s Ward at Islamia Eye Hospital in order to provide cataract surgery to 12,000 patients each year. By December 2018, the number of cataract beneficiaries has reached to 67,475. Also, through Rangdhanu Friendship Hospital, the bank has decided to reach the marginalized and hard-to-reach communities in coastal areas of Bangladesh with a view to decrease curable blindness. 400 patients have been provided sight-restoring procedures, and 3,900 patients have received primary and secondary healthcare services so far.
Besides, the bank has started working with the communities in Lalmonirhaat and Patgram to promote better hygiene, literacy, financial empowerment, and livelihood training—poultry rearing, adult literacy, vegetable cultivation, and computer literacy. By 2018, the programs have reached 3,105 households and 16,964 individuals.
In addition, one of the bank’s core values is women empowerment. With a partnership with BRAC and Women Win, the bank is trying to empower adolescent girls from the needy family with the confidence and training they need to attain financial leadership.
