In March 2013, GHS expanded its reach by establishing its third hospital in Thakurgaon, situated approximately 419 km from Dhaka, named Grameen Eye Hospital, Thakurgaon. This hospital serves the Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts, with a combined population of 2.36 million and an area of 3213 sq. km.
Grameen Eye Hospital, Thakurgaon, is staffed by a team of well-trained and experienced ophthalmologists, ophthalmic assistants, and hospital staff, all of whom have received training from the prestigious Aravind Eye Care System in India. Equipped with modern technology and advanced equipment, the hospital is dedicated to diagnosing and treating various eye conditions. Its doctors specialize in performing cataract surgery using state-of-the-art Phaco emulsification machines.
The establishment of the third hospital was made possible through the support of the SEVA Foundation, USA, and Aravind Eye Care System, India, which assisted in the human resource development of the hospital. Services offered include eye examinations, consultations with ophthalmologists, investigations for eye diseases, cataract surgery, as well as other eye surgeries such as Orbit & Oculoplasty, and Cornea treatments.
In addition to hospital-based services, GHS conducts community outreach programs, providing eye examinations, prescriptions, and diagnostic services to patients in rural areas. Patients identified for surgery are transported to the hospital, where procedures are performed in the operation theater, and they are safely returned to their localities after surgery.
Despite its advanced facilities, the hospital maintains an affordable registration fee of only BDT 100 ($0.92), covering the cost of eye examinations and prescriptions. Various service packages are available to accommodate individuals from different socioeconomic backgrounds, ensuring equitable access to quality eye care services.
