Bangladesh, a developing nation, grapples with various health challenges, notably in the domain of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) disorders, with deafness emerging as a prevalent issue, particularly in rural areas. Among health concerns, ENT-related conditions account for a significant portion of morbidity, with approximately 30% of the country's 1 million cancer patients falling under this category.
Presently, access to treatment facilities for such ailments is limited, compelling financially able patients to seek treatment abroad. Government hospitals, with a meager 250 beds allocated for ENT patients, struggle to meet the demand. Even the private sector and NGOs find themselves stretched in addressing this pressing health need.
In response to this healthcare gap, a coalition of philanthropic individuals, including social workers, doctors, and professionals, came together to establish the 'ENT and Head-Neck Cancer Foundation.' Their initiative commenced in April 2004 with a modest ENT & Head-Neck Cancer Hospital in a rented property in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Building upon this foundation, the organization proposed the establishment of a state-of-the-art ENT Hospital and Institute at Plot No. F-12 Agargaon Administrative Area, Sher-E Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, on land provided by the Government. This ambitious project, costing Taka 249.35 million, was a collaborative effort, jointly funded by the Government of Bangladesh and The ENT & Head-Neck Cancer Foundation.
