Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd (BCBL). was formed following the National Parliament Act no. 12, 1997. An eleven member Board of Directors was constituted by the Government to steer the new banking organization of the country. The bank started its commercial activities on 16 Sep, 1999 with the slogan, “A People’s Bank with a Mission”. The vision, as declared by Bangladesh Commerce Bank is to become the first choice in commercial banking and to make significant contribution for the society. The mission of the bank is to develop a skilled and dedicated work force for achieving sustainable growth of the bank and also of the society. And thus it would bring reasonable return for the stake holders. Authorized capital of Bangladesh Commerce Bank is Tk. 2000 million, while its paid up capital is Tk. 920 million. Of this paid up capital, Government’s contribution is Tk. 300 million, Tk. 520 million came from deposits in former BCI fund and the rest were collected from three public sector banks. Bangladesh Commerce Bank’s Board of Directors is formed by 11 members, 7 of them are nominated by the Government and the rest 4 members come from private share holders. This bank is a unique example of public-private partnership.
