Following the liberation of Bangladesh, the need for a unified body to represent travel agencies and promote the growth of the nation's travel, tourism, and aviation industries became apparent. In response, a group of travel agency owners gathered at the Dhaka Club in December 1976 to form the "IATA Travel Agents Association (ITAA)." Mr. M. A. Talib and Mr. A. N. B. Karim were elected as the association's first President and Secretary General, respectively, marking the beginning of an organization dedicated to protecting business interests and fostering a healthy industry.
In 2007, the association established the ATAB Tourism Training Institute (ATTI) to provide skilled personnel for the travel and tourism sectors. Since then, nearly 2,500 trainees have graduated from ATTI, with many now employed in various organizations. Through this initiative, ATAB has played a crucial role in developing a skilled workforce to support the country's tourism and aviation industries.
Today, ATAB has grown into one of the most respected and well-organized associations in Bangladesh, boasting approximately 3,500 members. It has earned a reputation as a key contributor to the aviation industry, frequently consulted by government officials on matters related to air travel, Hajj, Umrah, and more. ATAB's evolution into a strong stakeholder in the aviation and tourism sectors reflects the realization of its founders' vision and has established it as an essential part of the industry landscape in Bangladesh.
