Mishuk Ashraful Awal is an independent photographer and visual artist with a special interest in Personal Documentary. To him, photography is a powerful tool of expression. He is working as a photo curator at The Daily Star, one of the leading newspapers in Bangladesh. He is also a faculty member at the Department of Photography in Pathshala South Asian Media Institute which is a constituent college of Dhaka University and spends a lot of time teaching. He is a photo activist and has organized, participated and served in a wide range of exhibitions and workshops to support and promote photography in Bangladesh.  He started photography when he was an undergraduate student at NSU. After finishing his degree, he continued his study at the University of Dhaka but his passion for visuals drove him to drop out of academic schooling and join Pathshala, where he completed a three years graduation program in Photography.     His work “Underground” showed underground sub-cultures in Bangladesh which is emphasized global cultural influence on Bangladeshi youth which contradicts their conservative society. His other mentionable works include “Sarankhola: Life after SIDR”,  “Stone Mining in Bholaganj”. His work has been featured in Nordic Light, Chobi Mela  and Urban Youth Festival, published in different national and international publications such as Saudi Aramco World Magazine, Indian Architect and Builders Magazine etc. He currently is working on a research-based personal project.
