Chatttogram Medical College was established in 1960 with only 120 seats in the port city, Chattogram. It is the oldest medical college in the southern part of the country. Construction of the present purpose-built six-storied CMCH was completed in 1969, which now accommodates all the clinical Departments including all their sub-specialties. Construction of the present purpose-built six-storied CMCH was completed in 1969, which now accommodates all the clinical Departments including all their sub-specialties. The hospital, which had a capacity of 500 beds initially, gradually increased its strength to 750 and finally to 1313. It offers MBBS degree with some of the finest faculties of the country. It established Dental Unit in 1990 and started offering BDS course in the same year. It also offers post graduate courses under Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
