Bangladesh National Federation of the Deaf (BNFD) is the first Disabled People’s Organization (DPO) of Bangladesh. It is the mother of associations of the Deaf in Bangladesh, established on 25th December 1963 targeted Deaf people to be self-reliant through education, trainings and skill development. Bangladesh National Federation of the Deaf (BNFD) is the first Disabled People’s Organization (DPO) of Bangladesh. It is the mother of associations of the Deaf in Bangladesh, established on 25th December 1963 targeted Deaf people to be self-reliant through education, trainings and skill development. Founder president of BNFD Mr. Mohiuddin Ahmed, General Secretary Mr. Manjur Ahmed, Lion Mr. M. R. Khan, Mr. Harunar-Rashid Khan and Mr. Vijay Kumar Saha started its activities at Lion Mr. Khan’s house at Ramakrishna Mission Road. BNFD was registered as “East Pakistan Muk-Badhir Sangha” with Social Welfare Directorate in May,1964, and shifted to a rental house including a night school, technical training center and a library for Deaf at 33 Topkhana Road financing by directorate in 1966. Government allocated a land and financial donation in 1969. After liberation 1971, the name was changed as “Bangladesh Jatiyo Muk-Badhir Sangstha”, which was renamed as “Bangladesh Jatiyo Badhir Sangstha” in 1976. The office was shifted to 62 Bijoynagar in 1975, and initiated its construction in 1982. It is affiliated with Bangladesh National Social Welfare Council. BNFD is promoting linguistic and cultural diversity of the Deaf of Bangladesh to the world representing in the World Federation of Deaf (WFD).
